Lichtman

Sarah Lichtman is the director of Parsons’ MA History of Design and Curatorial Studies program. After holding a variety of jobs in the New York art world, including one at the Museum of Modern Art, Lichtman opened a successful midcentury modern design store in Brooklyn. Her love of design led her to pursue a master’s degree and a doctorate in design studies and then to teach at Parsons, where she specializes in design history and material culture. Her areas of interest include the Cold War, design and youth culture, gender and design, Scandinavian design and popular culture. Her articles and reviews have appeared in numerous journals including: The Journal of Design History, Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design and Culture, and West 86th. Sarah is presently working on a project examining the material culture of youth in the postwar United States.
